Cortabarría to oversee operational responsibility and asset management of Brickell City Centre, Miami’s largest mixed-use urban development.
Swire Properties Inc, one of South Florida’s leading international developers of real estate, today announced that Gonzalo Cortabarría has been appointed Senior Vice President of the company.
Formerly holding the title of Managing Director with Hines Interests LP based out of Houston, Cortabarría will oversee the overall leasing and operational responsibility for the $1.05-billion mixed-use development Brickell City Centre.
“As one of the largest mixed-use developments in the country, Brickell City Centre required an individual with a work history steeped in the multiple facets of development,” said Stephen Owens, president of Swire Properties Inc. “Gonzalo’s many years of overseeing and successfully managing large projects fits perfectly with the needs of this historic development for Miami.”
Cortabarría brings to Swire Properties more than 17 years of operational and management experience. Prior to joining Swire, Cortabarría was responsible for development and asset management for Hines in South Florida. He also played a key role in the opening of Hines’ offices in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.
Swire signed Saks Fifth Avenue as the anchor tenant of the shopping center last year. Both condominium towers Reach and Rise have topped out, with Reach close to sold. The $20-million CLIMATE RIBBON™ is being assembled and EAST is slated to open this year and will be Swire’s first hotel in the United States. At 9.1 acres, Brickell City Centre is poised to become an international, world-class destination and a game changer for the City of Miami.
Originally from Montevideo, Uruguay, Gonzalo Cortabarría has an undergraduate degree in architecture, an MBA and a Masters in Real Estate from MIT.
